Reacting to recent controversies surrounding the hit- and-run case involving a girl from a high profile family, the supervising officer of the case feels that police sub-inspector BK Saiyad did breach protocol by sending the accused to a private hospital for blood test to measure her alcohol levels.

According to A-division ACP, PC Joshi, the sub-inspector breached protocol for Labdhi Shah's blood test. "PSI BK Saiyad did not follow police protocol on that day. Police must conduct the blood test in a government hospital only. Saiyad breached protocol by taking her to a private hospital, which is a matter of concern," said Joshi, who was appointed as supervising authority by the state DGP, to probe the case. The incident took place near Himalaya mall on January 1.

After taking over, Joshi has assured of a fair probe into the case. "We will definitely look at the reasons and grounds on which Saiyad took the decision. Police usually don't do such things," said Joshi, who has said that Saiyad, the investigative officer (IO) of the case would also face an inquiry. However, the state DGP removed Saiyad as IO, and ordered a fresh probe on Thursday after criticism over the alleged cover up by the police. In his notification, the DGP has asked Vastrapur senior PI, MR Gupta to take over the investigation and conduct a fresh probe.

Defending the act of his PSI, Gupta argued that Saiyad took a humanitarian approach, as Labdhi was also injured in the accident. "After the accident, Labdhi's father requested to take her to a private hospital for better treatment. At that time, Saiyad took the decision to take the blood test in the same hospital to save time. There is nothing wrong in that," said Gupta.
