The high court on Thursday  directed the state government to complete the investigation pertaining to the post-graduate  entrance test (PGET) scam by May 20.

It may be recalled that with a view to put an end to malpractice in the post-graduate medical entrance exam and based on an interim report submitted by the Lokayukta, medical education minister SA Ramdas had ordered to nullify the results of 11 toppers. The toppers had challenged the government’s move in the high court.

Additional advocate-general KM. Nataraj on Wednesday submitted to the court that the investigation and the inquiry will be conducted by May 20.

Justice BS Patil has directed the state government to complete the final investigation and inquiry by May 20 and serve the final report copies to the 11 toppers on May 23. The case is adjourned to May 24.

Vinod Karjgi, Haridattatreya Mantagni, Dhananjay, and other toppers had filed a petition in the high court. The petitioners have submitted that media reports have disclosed their ranking in the provisional list for the post-graduate courses in medicine, which would be nullified due to alleged malpractices committed by them.

They have questioned the deletion of their names from the merit list without giving them a hearing. They called the move illegal and said at least a notice should have been given to them. Hence, the petitioners had sought permission to attend the counselling.
