High court disposes of PIL seeking ban on opinion polls on Ayodhya

The Allahabad high court today disposed of a PIL seeking directions for prohibiting all debates and opinion polls through SMS in the media on the Ayodhya title suits verdict slated to be pronounced on September 24.

Disposing of the PIL, the bench comprising chief justice of the Allahabad high court FI Rebello and Justice Pradeep Kant observed that free speech is the right of every citizen.

The PIL was filed by local lawyer Prince Lenin on September 18 seeking directions for prohibiting all debates and opinion poll through SMS in the media on the verdict of Ayodhya title suits.

During the hearing, a letter was presented by the Union of India on behalf of the the National Broadcasting Association setting guidelines for the media.
