Heavy rains claim 4 more lives in Uttar Pradesh

Three persons were killed in rain-related incidents in different parts of Barabanki district and one death was reported from Azamgarh district, official sources said.

Heavy rains claimed four more lives in Uttar Pradesh since Monday even as flood-like situation continued in several districts of the state, official sources said here today.

Three persons were killed in rain-related incidents in different parts of Barabanki district and one death was reported from Azamgarh district, they said.

While flood continued to play havoc in Lakhimpur district disrupting railway traffic, more than three dozen villages have been marooned by Ghaghra in Barabanki district, sources said.

Several villages have been hit by flood fury in Sadar and Amritpur tehsils of Farukkhabad district, they said. 

According to the Central Water Commission, the water level in the Ganges was rising at almost all the places in the state including Varanasi, Ghazipur, Allahabad, Rae Bareli, Kanpur, Ankinghat, Ballia and Gumtia. 

The water level in Yamuna was swelling at Agra, Etawah, Auraiya, Kalpi, Hamirpur and Naini in Allahabad and that of Gomti at Neemsar and Bhatpurwa in Sitapur, Jaunpur and Sultanpur. The water level of Sharda was flowing above danger mark at Palliakalan and Sharda Nagar, both in Kheri district.

Ghaghara was also flowing above danger mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki), Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia and Rapti was swelling in Balrampur, Bansi in Siddharth Nagar, Rigauli
and Birdghat in Gorakhpur.
