A physically-handicapped couple, allegedly facing threats from their relatives and neighbours had to wait for more than three days to get their police complaint filed. If that wasn't enough the police after filing the complaint tried to play it down by not adding sections dealing with harassment and threat.

The couple had been seeking police's help for the last three day after being threatened of assault by neighbours and relatives. Those who threatened them have been arrested but the couple allege that the cops have watered down the sections, which means the accused will be out of jail soon.

The woes of Dinesh Thakore (38) and Hasumati Thakore (35), resident of Visalpur near Aslali, started when they dared to construct a toilet on their land. The couple earn a living by selling chocolates near government schools. With the monsoon about to arrive, they found it difficult to attend nature's call in the open and so began construction of a toilet and a catchpit on their ancestral land.

This earned them a threat from their cousins and neighbours. "My cousins want to take illegal possession of the land that was given to me by my father. So they don't want any construction on this site," Dinesh told DNA. "Now I am afraid that after getting out on bail they will attack us as the police have not charged them with threat," he said.

The couple was first attacked at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday and they rushed to take help from the Aslali police, who took a written complaint from them.

"A police constable Pravinbhai misguided us and told us that they would reach the village to sort out the matter. But as we were too afraid to return to our land, he asked us to wait for the police team at the Visalpur bus stand. We kept waiting but no one turned up," said Dinesh.

He said the constable had even given them the mobile number of a cop called Raghubhai. "But even that number was switched off," said Dinesh. Then again on Wednesday morning, the couple turned up at the Aslali police to inquire about the status of their complaint.

It was then that they came to know that the cops had not registered an FIR against those who had attacked them.
Later the cops filed an FIR but did not add sections dealing with threat.

District superintendent of police, Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat told DNA that he is not aware of the incident but will inquire about it nevertheless.

The couple has accused Budha Punja, Khoda Ataji and Kaushik Chaman of harassing and threatening them. The three have allegedly asked the couple not to return to their land.
