Gyaneshwari Express suspect sent to jail custody

A close associate of Bapi Mahato, the prime accused in May 28 Gyaneshwari Express derailment in West Midnapore district, was today remanded to judicial custody by a local court here.

Amiya Mahato, who was produced in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Mohammed Rezza here by the CBI, was in its custody since his arrest on June 24 at Koimasole village.

The police and CBI have been investigating his role in the derailment of the Gyaneshwari Express which led to the death of 148 people.

Besides Amiya and Bapi, five others have been arrested in the case.
