Dr. Parimal Trivedi, vice-chancellor of Gujarat University, today made an announcement regarding the introduction of gold medals in three post graduate courses.

These courses are bio-technology, bio-informatics and climate change. The medals will be awarded to the toppers in these disciplines at the upcoming convocation.

After the inclusion of these medals, the gold medal tally in GU has reached 248 medals. In the last 5 years, 35 new courses were included in the medal list, including today's ones.

The cost of each medal will be around Rs3500. Each medal weighs between 30 and 40 grams and is made from a mix of gold and silver.

Gujarat University bears the expenses for these medals through the donations given by generous alumni and also by other donors.

Aniruddh Pandya, Gulabsinh Rajput and Milan Patel donated Rs55,000 each for these medals. "We even utilised Rs4000 to Rs5000 donated way back in 1949 to make today's medals" said Dr. Trivedi, who is confident that the medal tally will reach 300 within few years. He also appealed to the prospective donors to contact the university registrar to donate for the medals.
