'Safeguard', an initiative by Gujarat University students and the outcome of a bold decision by university officials, is all set to help policemen in solving crimes and catching thieves. According to the university's New Year plans, the initiative will be implemented soon.

Under this initiative, various volunteering student groups will be formed, who will be trained and provided guidance by the police department. These students will be given duties to protect citizens from crimes like chain-snatching.

"We wanted to introduce a constructive exercise for all those students who want to contribute to the society," said vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi. He maintained that the initiative is still in its raw form.

The university has also announced another initiative called 'Samarth Bharat'. Under this, students will be participating in activities to help underprivileged citizens.

Different students' groups under 'Samarth Bharat' will take up activities like educating the elderly and spreading awareness about health-related issues in remote villages.

"We wanted our students to be more compassionate towards society through such extra-curricular activities," added Parimal Trivedi.
