Around 50 students of Master of Law (LLM) of Gujarat University gathered near the university main office and registered their protest against the declaration of their first semester results, which declared them as failed. They claimed that initially the university website had declared them passed, but later on, the decision was reversed by the officials. Vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi has assured the agitating students that the matter will be looked into.

The university recently introduced the semester system in all postgraduate courses, including LLM. However, in this system, students need to get a minimum of 48% marks in order to pass, up from the 36% required in the old, yearly system. According to the agitating students, who belong to different colleges, they were reportedly not informed about this change.

The students also claimed that the university website had declared them passed. However, officials said that the software used to prepare results was not updated, and so students who had secured below 48% marks were also declared passed. Later, after realising the mistake, the university updated the software and set the minimum marks at 48%, and re-issued the results.

Because of this error, almost 50 students who were earlier declared passed by the website, have now failed as per the new criteria.
