Gujarat University portal to give information about colleges, professors

The next time you want to have information about any college affiliated to Gujarat University or the professors who teach in the colleges, all you have to do is click a mouse. For, a portal to be launched by the university by Diwali will provide details of its 400 affiliated colleges, 250 PG centres and around 10,000 teachers.

The software for the portal developed by three engineers will also have details such as the subject code of the teacher, his or her work experience, places where he had taught and so on. "The portal will have all the details about the colleges, the professors teaching in them, their profiles and their subject specialisation, among others,'' said an official of Gujarat University.

The official said the purpose of the portal is to help avoid duplication of jobs, especially among the teaching staff.
"There are many ad hoc lecturers who, at times, teach in two or three colleges. This is against university rules. The portal will give information on each professor - his name, photograph and where he teaches. This will help put an end to this practice,'' said the official.

The portal will also have a thumb impression of the professors, and the email addresses of the teaching staff along with their residential addresses. "Several other universities in the country already have such portals.

The Gujarat University portal has got delayed but this initiative will help students, said the official.
