Gujarat to get ready for a downpour today & tomorrow

The rains gave respite to people from hot and humid conditions. Monsoon has been advancing in various parts of Gujarat bringing rains, which led the mercury to hover below normal.

For Gujarat, Monday was a good day in terms of rains. The state received widespread rainfall on the day. The India Meteorology Department (IMD) has forecast heavy thundershowers during the next two days.

The rains gave respite to people from hot and humid conditions. Monsoon has been advancing in various parts of Gujarat bringing rains, which led the mercury to hover below normal.

After considerable delay in arrival of rains, the south-west monsoon descended over parts of Gujarat as 221 taluks, out of a total of 225, reported moderate to heavy rains.

While Kalyanpur received 16 cm of rainfall, Dwarka received 10 cm and Ahmedabad 8 cm. With today's rainfall, Ahmedabad has recorded total seasonal rainfall of 187.1 mm till now. On Monday, the city's maximum temperature dipped to 31.4 degrees Celsius.  

The IMD's satellite observations showed convective clouds over parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan and country's north-eastern states. The weather forecast up to July 8 notes that widespread rain and heavy thundershowers would occur over the west coast, north- eastern states and Gujarat during the next 48 hours.

IMD director in Gujarat, Kamaljit Ray, said: "Heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the state. The low pressure area over Gujarat and Rajasthan with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric levels persists. With this, the       offshore trough from Gujarat coast to Karnataka coast also persists, which is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall in entire Gujarat region during next 48 hours." 

Across the state, Meghraj received 7 cm of rainfall, Mansa 6 cm, Kalol, Dhanera and Vijaynagar 5 cm each; Deesa and Sinor 4 cm each; Sanand, Kadi, Vadnagar, Vijapur, Tharad, Vav, Himmatnagar, Idar, Modasa, Prantij, Sagbara and Mahuva 3 cm each; in Saurashtra and Kutch, Kalyanpur received 16 cm, Dwarka 10 cm, Bhanvad 8 cm, Okha 6 cm, Talala 4 cm; Jafrabad, Savarkundla, Veraval, Halvad, Mahuva, Kutiyana, Rajkot, Bhachau,  Mandvi and Rapar 3 cm each.

Monsoon rains lashed Vadodara, Amreli, Bagasara, Jamnagar, Sankheda, Rajkot and other places in last couple of days.

Due to the rains, night temperature in the cities has been settling at comfortable level. Farmers are delighted over timely arrival of rain which will save their crops.
