Gujarat Technology University organised their first ever research fair on May 13 and May 14. It was aimed at bringing out the best in engineering students across the state and encourage them to be more innovative. The fair was organised by GTU in association with LD Engineering College and the Chandkheda based Vishwakarma engineering college.

Engineering students of various streams presented their research papers and posters at the event. Acknowledging the lack of research oriented attitude in students, principal of LD College of Engineering MN Patel urged the students to think out of the box.

"We have the talent but we don't work hard to invent new things or conduct research. This fair is a step forward towards achieving the same," said Patel.

He also asked professors to concentrate on research work rather than focus on conventional teaching methods.

Pradip Gundaliya, coordinator of the fair, gave details of the winners of different streams. Of the 73 research papers which the students presented, 29 were from civil engineering, 11 from mechanical engineering, 11 from chemical engineering, 6 from instrumentation and control, 7 from computer engineering and 9 from electrical engineering.

A team of expert reviewers shortlisted these entries from more than 150 total entries.

The winners were announced on May 14. In civil engineering, Manoj Gundaliya won the first prize for his presentation on linking two rivers in Junagadh district. Hitesh Panchal bagged the first prize for his research paper in mechanical engineering, and Kangana Bhatt won the first prize for her presentation in chemical engineering.

Apart from these students, three professors were also awarded first prizes for their research papers. They were: AM Upadhyay (electrical engineering), Prof Kunal Bhoenia (instrumentation and control) and Prof Chirag Patel (computer engineering).
