Two BJP MLAs were allegedly watching obscene pictures during the proceedings of the Gujarat assembly.
Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ganpat Vasava on Wednesday ordered a probe by a House Committee for the breach of privilege against two BJP MLAs who were allegedly watching obscene pictures during the proceedings.
The issue rocked the state Assembly on Wednesday after the MLAs Shankar Chaudhury and Jetha Bharwad were on Tuesday seen spending time on their tablets during the House proceedings here, allegedly viewing obscene pictures of women.
The Speaker also ordered Vidhansabha Secretary to seize the tablet of Chaudhury and send it to Forensic Science Laboratory for investigation.
"I order probe into the allegations against the two MLAs which are very serious and and prima facie it seems to be breach of their special rights under section 194 of the Constitution," Vasava said.
This has projected the House in a poor light, and it seems to be an conspiracy to malign the house, Vasava said.
"Such incident cannot be tolerated in Parliamentary democracy if elected representatives are targeted by media in such a manner that they have to face humiliation," he said.
"I order that I-pad/tablet of the MLA should be taken and submitted to the FSL to find out the truth," Vasava told the House.
The privilege committee of the House comprises members of both the Congress and the BJP.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary has denied of any wrongdoings and alleged that this is a conspiracy to malign him and his party.
"I had not viewed any obscene clips in the House and allegation like this cannot be tolerated. I have never in my life seen such clips," Chaudhary said.
"I am willing to deposit my i-pad before you (Speaker Vasava) for investigation. If I have done any wrong then I would quit politics," he said.
"I used my i-pad for getting direct question from the people of my constituency and for doing party work. This is a strong conspiracy to defame me and my government," he said and sought protection from the Speaker under the rule of the House.
Earlier, he had told reporters that with the use of technology it can be determined whether he had watched any porn clips in the House.
Bharwad also said he had not watched any porn clips in the House.
"This seems to be a conspiracy against us and my party," he said.
