Next time when you visit a police station, don't be shocked to find suave policemen speaking in English, possessing in-depth knowledge of cyber crimes and other techniques to tackle any dangerous situation, including terror attacks. All thanks to the highly-advanced training tools and laboratory that have come up at the Police Training Academy in Karai, Gandhinagar.

After 530 police sub inspectors (PSIs), who completed their training at the academy and joined the police force in November last year, 357 more policemen are ready to prove their mettle as they will join the passing out parade in May 2012. They include 61 DySPs, 180 PSIs and 116 women LRD constables.

KD Patadia, director of academy said that these policemen possess several skills. They know to speak in English and crack cases related to cyber crimes. “We have made separate labs to train them to teach how to communicate in English and provide them advanced computers skills,” said Patadia at a press meet on Thursday.

Apart from labs, the academy is also in process to train them for emergency situations like 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

“We have made a tower as well as a helipad-like place to train them to enter into a building from a high level. We have already installed two hi-tech simulators to teach them how to fire AK-47 and throw grenades and that too without wasting money in actually using the arms,” said Patadia.

Among all the trainees at the academy, 135 PSIs have also been given basic commando training which will get over on April 30.

Apart from the training tools and labs, the landscape of the academy is going through changes including using drip irrigation for all plants inside the premises.

“We are also building a fort surrounding the new parade ground as we are constructing a sports complex on the old
parade ground at the cost of Rs7 crore,” announced Patadia.
