Gujarat man loses car for lottery, almost

Vijay Patel had gone to claim non-existent lottery money when his car was stolen.

It was a jackpot that cost a man his car, and the jackpot wasn't even real. Vijay Patel, a social worker was called by a lottery company and told that he had won Rs15,000.

He was asked to collect the cheque for the winning amount from an office located on the eighth floor of Safal Pegasus building on the Anandnagar Road. An anxious Patel speedily drove in his car to the spot, parked it, and went upstairs to pick up his 'winnings'.

Failing to locate anyone at the give address, he returned to the parking lot only to find that his Tata Safari was missing.
He then rushed to the Satellite police station where he filed a complaint with the police.

During the course of the inquiry, the personnel of the crime detection squad of zone-1 found that a key to Patel's car had gone missing some time ago.

PSI KJ Patel, who was part of the operation, said, "We found that the owner had lost one of his keys.

The car had been taken to a workshop a few days ago after which the key went missing," he said.

Sources said that during investigation, cops found that an employee of the workshop who had joined a month ago had stolen the key, which he used the key to steal the car.

The Tata Safari has a central lock system. Sources said that the car can only be opened with either one of the two keys given to its owner.

A team comprising of three PSIs including KJ Patel, Vasant Pateland AM Patel of crime detection squad then got the whereabouts of the employee who stole the key.

Acting on a tip-off, the team found the accused in Juhapura. He has been identified as Mohammed Amin (33), a resident of Hussaini Park in Juhapura. Officials said that Amin had tucked away the car in a corner of another residential society. He was arrested on the spot.
