Gujarat government bans use of mobile phones in schools, colleges

The Gujarat government has banned the use of mobile phones in schools and colleges, as it was affecting the educational activities in the institutes, an official release said in Ahmedabad today.

A resolution to this effect was passed by the state education department yesterday, it said.

Education department officials said that the ban has been imposed to curb the excessive use of mobile phones which was affecting the educational activities in schools and colleges.

According to the resolution passed by the government, students up to class 12 will not be allowed to take mobile phones inside the school premises.

Even teachers, staff, parents and visitors will not be be allowed to use mobile phones in places like class rooms, libraries and laboratories, it said.

In college campuses too, the use of mobile phones has been banned for students, staff, faculty, parents and visitors, the resolution said, adding that, however, the possession of mobile phones will be permitted.

The state government has also requested the principals of schools and colleges to provide land-line phone facilities within the campus for students and staff.
