Gujarat gets 50 % more rain than normal

However, there may be a temporary respite as the state weather office has forecast a slight decrease in rainfall activity in the next two days.

Rains have played havoc across Gujarat as the state has already got more than 80% of its total seasonal rainfall, which it usually gets by September 15. This year the state has received 50% more rains than it normally gets till August 4. However, there may be a temporary respite as the state weather office has forecast a slight decrease in rainfall activity in the next two days.  

Thirty-two villages, mainly in Jamnagar, Porbandar and Kutch, were declared flood-affected by the government on Wednesday.

Out of 196 dams in the state, 52 have been declared as completely filled — which means 41.80 % full.

Gujarat, which normally gets 392 mm rains by August 4, has received 586.9 mm this time in the same period.

Saurashtra and Kutch, which include 9 subdivisions including Jamanagar, Porbandar and Junagarh, have got 656.4 mm rain so far, which is 123 % more than its normal rainfall.

Gujarat region which includes 20 sub-divisions the main ones being Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara and Gandhinagar, has got 504.0 mm rain till August 4, against the normal 521.6 mm- which is 3% less than the usual pattern. 

The state government machinery is on high alert to deal with flood situations in 32 villages.

Jamanagar district's 10 villages, 19 villages of Porbandar district and 3 villages in Kutch have been declared as flood affected.
