Fresh law graduates who have enrolled with the Gujarat high court bar council have a reason to rejoice. Gujarat High Court Advocates Association (GHCAA) is contemplating ways to provide financial support to freshers who need such help to establish themselves in the profession.

The GHCAA provides financial support to lawyers who render free legal aid to people. Yogesh Lakhani, president of Gujarat High Court Advocates Association said, "Lawyers who are new to the profession and render free legal aids to people, would be provided with financial support after GHCAA assess their work." Lakhani further said that such lawyers, who have enrolled with Gujarat High Court Bar Council, would be provided with legal support.

The money for the cause would be paid out of the interest collected from the contribution made by the high court lawyers to the life membership of Gujarat bar council. Advocates who are enrolling for the life-membership would have to pay Rs15,000 for the purpose.

Lakhani also said that in the recent meetings of GHCAA it was decided to issue photo identity card to 1200 high court advocates who have enrolled with GHCAA as a part of the golden jubilee celebration of the Gujarat high court. The personal details of these advocates will be used in preparing a directory of GHCAA.

More than ninety percent of the lawyers in high court have registered themselves with GHCAA and have applied for the new identity card.  Sources said that the photo-identity card would be made mandatory for the advocates during the elections of the Gujarat bar council to check malpractices. Earlier, several cases of malpractices were reported in the elections of bar council.

Sources said the GHCAA has recently amended its constitution and has decided to issue new identity card bearing photographs to its members.
