BJP Andhra Pradesh unit chief G Kishan Reddy today called for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention towards finding a solution to the ongoing general strike in the state over Telangana issue.

Reddy told reporters in Hyderabad that the 'Sakal Janula Samme'(general strike), launched on September 13 by the state government employees, is being carried out peacefully and supported by people from all walks of life, including auto-drivers.

However, he alleged that the State and Union governments have not responded to the general strike, which has affected the functioning of the state administration.

"The Prime Minister should depute a high-level delegation to visit Telangana districts for a first-hand knowledge of the impact of the general strike," he said.

"It was unfortunate that both, the State and Central governments have failed to understand the intensity of the agitation," Reddy said adding that the people of the region have been demanding separate state for the last two years.

Replying to a query, the BJP leader said that the party never support violence and people's agitation should be peaceful.
