Govt to hand over probe to DSP

The state government on Thursday informed Gujarat high court that investigation into the case in which 23 thalassemic children were allegedly given HIV infected blood will now be carried out by a DSP. The government told a bench of acting chief justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and JB Pardiwala that the probe would be carried out by a DSP-level officer under the supervision of DIG-rank officer.

Earlier, the probe in the matter was being carried out by a police inspector but the parents of the affected kids had demanded investigation by an officer in the rank of DSP or above as they were not happy with the way the investigation was being done.

The government's reply was in connection with a special criminal application filed by the parents of the children demanding action against those responsible for the incident.

The parents had approached the high court after their complaints to the police authorities concerned and the district superintendent of police were not registered as FIR.

A division bench of Gujarat high court had then asked the state government to register an FIR against authorities responsible for the incident

The division bench had also given the government a fortnight's time in filing its affidavit  'parawise' in connection with a PIL filed by advocate Girish Das seeking action against the authorities of
Junagadh Civil Hospital.
