Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit today said her government will facilitate adequate availability of water in all areas in the city before commencement of next year's Commonwealth Games.

At a function after laying the foundation stone for a 1.59 million litre capacity underground reservoir at Kirari in North West Delhi, Dikshit said the Delhi Jal Board was building infrastructure to streamline the water distribution network.

Exhorting people to conserve water, Dikshit said that after commissioning of the reservoir, people of Kirari will not face scarcity of drinking water.

The UGR is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore and it would be functional within a year.

Officials said that around 3.41 lakh people from Rama Vihar, Mubarakpur Dabas, Nithari, Kirari Suleman as well as adjoining colonies will benefit once the UGR is operational.

MP from the area and Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath was present on the occasion.

Yesterday, Dikshit had inaugurated a 4.2 million litre Under Ground Reservoir (UGR) in West Delhi built at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

On the occasion, Dikshit had indirectly blamed the ever growing migrant population for shortage of water and electricity in the capital.

"The population in Delhi is increasing everyday. It demands more electricity and water ... People from across the country come here," she said.
