A government school in Khirkiya tehsil, about 35km away from Harda district headquarters in Madhya Pradesh, has been paying tributes in the letter and spirit to the 'Father of the Nation' as every student has been voluntarily donning a Gandhi cap everyday since the last 125 years.

Shaskiya Buniyadi Shala (SBS) was following the tradition of wearing a Gandhi cap, a symbol of non-violence and simplicity, since it was established about 125 years ago, head master of school's primary division Moti Singh Suchar claimed on the sidelines of the 142nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Beyond symbolism, the teachers and pupils considered the tradition as a real tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

By wearing the cap, they feel as if they are fully energised to serve the country and become totally disciplined, the high school principal SK Jape said.

He said though it was not mandatory to wear the Gandhi cap, the students and teachers were following this tradition with pride since the last 125 years.

Nearly 500 students are studying in this school which has classes from primary to high school level.
