The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's policy paralysis is pushing the country towards an unprecedentedd economic crisis, former BJP president Rajnath Singh, today said.

Speaking to mediapersons in Kozhikode, Singh said the poor and weaker sections of the society are forced to live a life of despair and distress.

"Even the people who belong to higher income groups are feeling the pinch of escalating prices stoked by rampant inflation," Singh said.

Noting that the Centre was clueless, he said, "The incumbent government at the Centre is completely clueless and its economic mismanagement has taken the inflation to all time highs."

Inflation coupled with corruption is taking its toll on Indian economy, he said adding, "The government has been a big failure when it comes to dealing with both these issues."

"According to Transparency International, India today is one of the most corrupt economies of the world," Singh said.

Replying to a query on BJP stand on the allegation of amassing of wealth by the close relatives of former Chief Justice of India, KG Balakrishnan, Singh said "our party president had also demanded a enquiry."

When further queried, Singh said, "Our party stand is very clear that there should be an enquiry. If any allegation comes against anyone then there should be enquiry."
