Government is in no hurry to bring the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha in the first phase of current session ending on March 16 and may go for it in the second phase starting from April 12.
Asked when the bill would be brought in the Lok Sabha, parliamentary affairs minister PK Bansal did not give any clear indication but suggested that the government would like the tempers to cool.
"We want everyone on board. We will certainly try for a congenial atmosphere. Some efforts will have to be made to avoid such things that had occurred in the Rajya Sabha (yesterday during passing of the bill)," Bansal said.
He said that the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee (BAC) on March 12 would decide on when to take up the bill. At the same time, he said there were other important official business, including financial bills, to be taken up before the House adjourns on March 16.
"Certainly by May seven in all probability it will be passed," he said on the Women's Reservation Bill. May seven is the last day of the Budget session.
Earlier, law minister M Veerappa Moily had indicated that the bill could be taken up on March 15 or March 16 but went on to say that a decision on this will be taken by the BAC.
On the demand for revocation of suspension of seven MPs against whom action was taken by the Rajya Sabha for their unruly behaviour when the bill was taken up, Bansal said,
"Nobody is averse to the idea."
"We want them to be in Parliament. It was an unsavoury incident that took place. We were rather compelled to take that bitter pill," he said adding, the dignity of the House was involved.
