Government clerk shot at in Paldi, Gujarat

Two people opened fire at Raju Shekhwa who was in the city for a tender to be opened by the Central Warehousing Corporation. The victim’s cousin works as a contractor of the FCI.

A clerk, who works at the mamlatdar office in Amreli, was severely injured following an incident of firing in Paldi.  Rajendra alias Raju Shekhwa, a resident of Amreli was injured in the shootout at Mahalaxmi crossroads.

Two people opened fire at Shekhwa who was in the city for a tender to be opened by the Central Warehousing Corporation. The victim’s cousin works as a contractor of the Food Corporation of India (FCI). 

 The corporation had written a letter to Shekhwa informing him about the tender, which is related to transport of foodgrains to the warehouse of the FCI.  Sources said that he had come from Rajkot to Ahmedabad on Wednesday night. He was staying at a relative’s place in the city.

Shekhwa reached the office of Central Warehousing Corporation at around 10:30 am on Thursday.

Sources said that as he reached for his car, he heard a blast and immediately fell down. It was only when people gathered at the spot that he came to know that he had been shot.
Sources said that the assailants had fired a single shot at Shekhwa. The watchman of the warehouse, who was a witness to the incident, immediately informed the official, whom Shekhwa was to meet, about the incident. The 108 services was called and Shekhwa was rushed to the Sterling Hospital.

Shekhwa later called up his uncle and told him that he had been shot. In his statement to the police, Shekhwa said that he suspected two people to be behind the incident including one Suresh Shah and Pradeep Jha, both Vadodara-based contractors.

The owner of the petrol pump, located right opposite the office of the corporation, told the police that two people who were on an Activa had shot Shekhwa. The Ellisbridge police are investigating the matter.

Police inspector JB Gadhvi told DNA, “The victim has named two people as suspects in the case. We are investigating the matter.” Sources in the police department said that a team has been deputed to Vadodara for investigation
