The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology Institutes has been imparting lessons on environmental planning to hundreds of students and clients. Now, as the institute is set to celebrate 50 years of its existence, it is going green. Cept plans to erect 15 environment-friendly solar lights to keep the campus illuminated while also saving energy.

The solar lights will illuminate not just the campus but also the parking space that did not have lights so far. Eleven lights have already been installed while the rest would be erected in next couple of days.

Also, university authorities have placed five CCTV cameras at the entrance and on the campus to monitor activities.

Sharing information about installation of the solar lights, Cept official SJ Chauhan said that the idea is to save energy. "The move will save around 10% of electricity used on Cept campus every month. This is seen as not only a monetary respite but also an environmental friendly move. Also, corners that remained dark will now be lit up," he said.

He said that the institute has spent around Rs5 lakh to erect solar lights on the campus and Rs50,000 to install CCTV cameras.
