The Meteorology Centre in Panaji will not be getting Doppler radar from China at the behest of the union government and the local MP has sought installation of locally made radar for accurate weather forecasts.

Shantaram Naik, Member of Parliament from Goa in a press note released here said that since the Union government has decided not to install Chinese radars in certain areas of the country, which includes Goa, the state should get locally made radar made by manufacturer like Bharat Electronics.

Naik said that he would soon approach the Minister forScience and Technology Pawan Kumar Bansal for the purpose.

Naik pointed out that the building for installing the Chinese radar has already been constructed at the Meteorology Centre, Panaji, and that, a few changes in its structure may be needed to install the indigenously manufactured radar.

Although the radar functioning at Mumbai Meteorology Centre covers Goa region, considering the relevance and location of the state, the Met Centre at Panaji should have a separate radar for accurate weather predictions, Naik said.
