A second year graduate student of Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, has bagged a summer training course in international law at the Xiamen Academy of International Law (XAIL) in Xiamen, China.

The 19-year-old student, Sujoy Datta, will leave for the three-week programme, in which students from 40 countries are participating, on July 2.

"Although I had individually applied for this course at XAIL, I received great support from my institute. I was chosen on the basis of the statement of purpose I had submitted," Datta said. Datta, who has a keen interest in international law, also received a full waiver of tuition and admission fees from XAIL, and will only have to bear other expenses like travel and lodging.

The course will involve lectures from legal luminaries of the world and students from all around the globe. This, Datta feels, would equip him with knowledge of various fields of international law.

"In the light of the current global debates on the viability of Operation Geronimo and the ongoing armed intervention in Libya, I feel that the lectures will be interesting to address these crises of international law and understand the problems and
possible solutions.”
