Global developers invited for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue in Gujarat

The state government has issued advertisements in a UK-based financial newspaper, inviting global bids for the proposed 182 meter high statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Narmada.

The advertisement of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) appeared two days back in London edition and global edition of Financial Times.

"This is the first advertisement we have issued because we are looking for the best developer of the statue. International consortiums of developers are also welcomed to bid in it. Hence we issued the advertisement," said K Srinivas, member secretary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rastriya Ekta Trust, SSNNL, Gujarat government.

The advertisement stats that "Gujarat government through a society created for the purpose, has resolved to construct a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, termed as 'Statue of Unity' having a height of 182 meters, at Sadhu Island, 3.5 km downstream of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia in Gujarat." Gujarat government is requesting for proposal for providing consultancy services.

"Through the global bid we are looking for best company. Any company's bid which fulfils three requirement - best price, best technology and best structure - will win the bid," said Srinivas.
The cost of the project is around Rs1,200 crore, says an advertisement.

"The society will take up the construction of the said structure, as a landmark project, through engineering procurement construction contracts at an investment of around $300 million (Rs1,200 crore)," said the advertisement.
