It was a sight to behold as a brave college girl chased down the man who snatched her chain on Friday morning. What is interesting is that the incident took place a few metres away from a police station of the city.

The chain snatcher, who was escaping in an autorickshaw, was caught by the girl who was on foot and handed over to Kagdapith police. The man got a taste of his own medicine as the crowd gathered at the spot roughed him up before taking him to the cops.

When Mina Sheth, 22, a second year college student woke up at her home in Odhav area on Friday, she had no idea what the day had in store for her. As she walked to MP College of Arts in Raipur area where she studies, she was caught unawares for a moment by a man in an autorickshaw. The auto came to a halt right next to her and the man driving it snatched her chain and tried to escape. As Mina regained her composure, and not willing to let the thief escape that easily, she followed on foot behind the auto.

The courageous girl in a daring move caught hold of the man from the moving auto and pulled him out. As the man fell to the ground, a crowd gathered around him. Upon hearing Mina's story they bashed the man up. The cops got there in time and hauled off the thief to Kagdapith police station.

Interestingly, the incident took place right outside MP College which is a few steps away from Kagdapith police station.
The autorickshaw driver was later identified as one Mohd Wahid Ansari, 20, a resident of Gomtipur. The cops are now investigating whether the man has any prior offences.

Kagdapith police inspector AS Pandya told DNA, "The modus operandi of chain-snatching by an auto driver has been seen for the first time by us. We need more proactive citizens like Mina to ensure that instances of such crimes are reduced."
