Girl accuses BSP MLA of rape; examined by doctors in Uttar Pradesh

A three-member team of doctors, have submitted the report to the superintendent of police, after examining the 17-year-old girl presently lodged in jail on theft charges, officials said.

The district administration here has ordered the medical examination of a girl who has charged Banda BSP MLA and his supporters of raping her, officials said today.

A three-member team of doctors, have submitted the report to the superintendent of police, after examining the 17-year-old girl presently lodged in jail on theft charges, they said.

The order for conducting the examination was issued after the SP, Anil Das spoke to the girl for over five hours in jail during which she levelled the charges against BSP MLA Purshottam Narain Dwivedi and his aides, they said.

Uttar Pradesh Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, state unit president of the BJP Surya Pratap Shahi had visited the jail in the last couple of days but they were not allowed to meet the girl and following which they resorted to dharna.

According to the father of the girl, she had gone to her maternal home in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh a few months ago from where she had gone missing.

On December 7, he got a call informing him that his daughter was in Pathra village in Banda and he sought the MLA's help in tracing her. After she was recovered she was taken to the Dwivedi's house from where the girl allegedly escaped after stealing a mobile phone, cash, officials said.

The girl was arrested on December 12, two days after the MLA lodged an FIR. However, when she was produced before the court on December 24 when she told her brother that she had been raped at the MLA's house.

Meanwhile in Lucknow, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav said it was most unfortunate that the MLA's name has cropped up in a rape case. "The government is supposed to ensure safety and security of its people but in this government, its ministers and MLAs are themselves involved in heinous crimes like rape," he said.

The chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled castes, PL Punia has sought a report from the state government on the issue as the girl belongs to a backward class.

The MLA when contacted said the charges are politically motivated.
