Germany, France condemn Varanasi blast

Germany and France today condemned the bomb blast in Varanasi and expressed their condolences to the victims of the attack.

Deputy head of the German embassy Christian-Matthias Schlaga met home secretary GK Pillai to express Germany's deepest condolences over the Varanasi blast that took place last evening.

Schlaga condemned the horrific act and said that Germany was with India in this hour of need.

"France most firmly condemns yesterday's terrorist blast in Varanasi, which claimed one life and injured several tens of people," a French embassy spokesperson said.

He said a French national was slightly affected and was taken care of at the local hospital.

"We convey our condolences to the family of the victim of this dastardly and cruel act, and assure the injured as well as the government and the people of India of our solidarity and sympathy," the spokesperson said.
