Funeral of senior navy officer in Kochi on Friday

A statement issued by the defence public relations officer said that mourning ceremonies would be held in SS Jamwal's Jammu hometown on July 16 and July 19.

The funeral of the senior Indian navy officer who was killed Wednesday in an accidental firing at a Kochi gunnery school will be held at Thoppumpady on Friday, an official said.

Rear Admiral SS Jamwal was killed when a bullet from his pistol hit him during a training session.

The autopsy was conducted on Thursday at the Alappuzha Medical College.

A statement issued by the defence public relations officer said that mourning ceremonies would be held in Jamwal's Jammu hometown on July 16 and July 19.

Jamwal was commissioned into the navy July 1, 1980. He is survived by his wife Geeta and two children.
