Politics makes strange bedfellows, indeed! Chand Mohammad went back to Fiza, his second wife whom he divorced three months ago after a two-month-old wedding, and asked for forgiveness. Fiza had filed a criminal complaint against Chand at the Mohali police station and threatened to contest against Chand, a Congress MLA from Kalka. With Assembly elections in Haryana due in a few months, many believe this might be Chand’s ploy to keep Fiza at bay.
Just last week, Chand had told reporters on his return from London that there was no question of going back to Fiza and that he would continue living with his first wife.
But on Sunday morning it was all smiles between Chand and Fiza. Haryana’s former deputy chief minister walked into the house of his “beloved wife” Fiza to seek an apology for everything that happened between them in the last three months.
Chand, who had said “talaq, talaq, talaq” to Fiza over the phone from London in March, was a picture of regret and remorse when he reached Fiza’s house. But Fiza was not at home and Chand had to wait till noon before holding her hand again. He said he had done it all in a fury, for which he should be pardoned.
The two then had lunch together and called the media to make public their new-struck rapprochement. Fiza, however, remained non-committal about her new relationship with Chand.
She said she would take her time to decide on Chand’s apology. “I will think about living with him again and withdrawing the case against him. He had been misled by others,” Fiza said. Soon after she flew to Malaysia. She would return later next week, she said.
Chand had married Fiza, a former Haryana additional advocate general, secretly when they were holidaying in Himachal Pradesh last November. Both of them converted to Islam and changed their names from Chander Mohan to Chand Mohammad and Anuradha Bali to Fiza.
The love story carried on for two months before Chand Mohammad, one day, deserted his wife to rejoin his first wife, Seema Bisnoi, from whom he has three children. Chand, Seema and the children then left for London from where he divorced Fiza.
