Majlis-e-Mushawarat, which spearheaded a stir in Shopian over the alleged rape and murder of two women there, today attacked the Jammu and Kashmir government following reports that the victims DNA samples had been tampered with.

"It is a slur on the face of the government. If government is sincere, it should subject all the accused police officials including those of the special investigation team (SIT) to questioning," MeM spokesman Shafi Khan said.

Disapproving a CBI probe into the case, he said such a probe will be futile as "all attempts are being made to cover up the issue".

The state government had decided to handover the case to the CBI if the state high court which is monitoring the police investigation permitted.

Khan alleged that the Health department was also involved in the tampering of the DNA samples.
