Freedom fighters` outfit seeks special programmes on November 1

The Unified Federation of Freedom Fighters Association of Puducherry has urged chief minister V Vaithilingam to hold special programmes on November 1 to highlight the importance of the day in the freedom movement of Puducherry.
   
Federation president M Periasamy in a press release said it was on November 1, 1954 Puducherry and its outlying regions Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam became free de facto from France through a public referendum at Kizhoor village near here. As such, special programmes should be held that day to highlight the importance of the day in liberation movement of Puducherry
   
Periasamy said this plea had been repeatedly brought to the notice of the government but to no avail.
