Free bus travel for women in Rajasthan on Women's Day

'The facility of free travel for women will be available tomorrow in all the buses of Rajasthan State Road and Transport Corporation across the state. Tickets will be issued but no fare will be charged from female passengers,' an RSRTC official said.

Women in Rajasthan will be exempted from paying fares while travelling in the state roadways buses on Tuesday on the occasion of International Women's Day, an official said in Jaipur today.

"The facility of free travel for women will be available tomorrow in all the buses of Rajasthan State Road and Transport Corporation (RSRTC) across the state. Tickets will be issued but no fare will be charged from female passengers," an RSRTC official said.

"This will be applicable in all categories including Volvo (except Jaipur-Delhi route) for 24 hours beginning at 12.00 hrs tomorrow," he added.

Several functions will also be organised all over the state to mark the day, said a senior official.

"Activities have been planned at state, divisional, block, Gram panchayat and Aanganbadi levels to celebrate Women's Day. A national exhibition will be held here where handicraft items made by women's self help group will be made available for sale," said Sarita Singh, commissioner and secretary of the department of women and child development.

"We have also planned meetings at Aanganbadi level which will focus on the importance of girls' education and empowerment. A film of women empowerment will also be screened at Jawahar Kala Kendra here," she said.
