The lighting of crackers outside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa was released on bail on Tuesday evening, has sounded alarm bells for the BJP brass.

Not surprisingly, none of the party national leaders showed the courtesy to even welcome Yeddyurappa’s release.
The turn of events on Tuesday has raised doubts about the survival of DV Sadananda Gowda’s government with Yeddyurappa showing all signs of trying to consolidate his grip over the BJP government in the state.

The Karnataka high court on Tuesday granted Yeddyurappa conditional bail in one of the private complaints of alleged illegal land denotification. He has already got bail in other cases.
The party national leaders went into a huddle to discuss the implications of Yeddyurappa’s release amid reports that he was planning to float his own party.

The by-poll for Bellary Rural assembly constituency could well be the beginning of the see-saw battle between pro and anti-Yeddyurappa factions in the state BJP with Yeddyurappa faction making a strong pitch for facing the by-poll under his leadership.

The selection of candidate for the by-poll too has precipitated a crisis as former minister Sriramulu is almost certain to bid good bye to BJP and contest as an independent. The buzz in political circles of an impending Yeddyurappa-Sriramulu alliance, if the party continues to ignore them has pushed BJP leadership to the wall.
