After nearly a month of disappearance, former Goa tourism minister Francisco Pacheco alias Mickky surrendered to the district sessions court in Margao, which remanded him to two days judicial custody.

However, a few hours after he was remanded, Mickky was hospitalised in the Hospicio hospital in Margao as he complained of chest pain.

Mickky, who is NCP legislator from Benaulim constituency, was on the run after he resigned on June 5 following his marathon questioning by the CID Crime Branch in connection with the 28-year-old Nadia Torrado death case.

After his anticipatory bail was rejected by the local court as well as the High Court, Mickky’s bail was also rejected by the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Having no other option, Mickky surrendered Saturday morning to district sessions court in Margao. Simultaneously, he filed an application for interim bail which was rejected by the court.

Additional Sessions Judge Pramod Kamat remanded Pacheco for two days judicial custody fixing the hearing on Monday for regular bail.

The police have charged Mickky for culpable homicide. His former aide Lyndon Monteiro has been charged for destruction of evidence.

The Crime Branch is investigating the death of Nadia, a close woman friend of the NCP leader. It has booked Pacheco and his close aide Lyndon Monteiro for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and destruction of evidence respectively.

Seeking interim bail Pacheco’s lawyer claimed that there is nothing on record to specify his involvement in the crime.

Pointing to the contusions on Nadia’s body, who was allegedly Mickky’s girlfriend, the lawyer said that the doctors at Apollo hospital in Goa (where Nadia was brought immediately when she consumed poison on May 15) had stated there were no marks on her body. “Even the doctors at Jupiter Hospital in Thane had ruled out any bruise marks,” the lawyer said.

Pacheco said he was not hiding but was at his residence at Verna, 25 km from here. “I was busy approaching courts seeking anticipatory bail. Police came to my house only once when I was not there. They never visited againm,” said Pacheco.
