Seven injured in violence in Srinagar

A group of youths staged a demonstration in Maisuma in the heart of the city and were asked by police to disperse. However, they resorted to stone-pelting following which police used force, police said.

At least seven persons including two policemen were injured as police opened fire to quell a stone-pelting mob in Maisuma locality of the city today.
 
"Today at about 12.30pm, some miscreants violated the orders of restrictions on movement in Maisuma Chowk," a police spokesperson said.
 
The protesters were asked by police to disperse. However, they resorted to stone-pelting on police and CRPF personnel following which the security personnel used force, he said. Seven persons including two policemen received injuries.
 
A critically wounded person, who received pellet injuries, was rushed to a hospital where he was operated upon, police said.
 
"The injured persons have been identified as Yasir Rafiq Sheikh, Sajad Ahmad, Ishfaq Majeed, Aqib Majeed and Feroz Ahmad Dar, all residents of Maisuma", the spokesman said.
 
Two police constables Mukhtar Ahmad and Abdul Waheed have also received injuries, he said.
