At least four persons were injured, one of them seriously, in a clash over use of state-owned cashew jungle at Bada Sahi, about 75 km from here, police said today.

The clash took place yesterday as local people, mostly tribals, resisted lease holders from entering the cashew jungle near the village.

The locals said the jungle like others of its kind belongs to the state-owned Cashew Development Corporation and local people want to use it.

Hundreds of tribals of nearby villages armed with traditional weapons allegedly attacked the lease holder's men when they tried to enter into the jungle, the police said.

In the clash that ensued a night watcher of the jungle was seriously injured by an arrow. Three others were also wounded in the incident.

The agitated tribals also set on fire at least four motorcycles, the police said.

Senior police officers along with reinforcement rushed to the spot and the injured was admitted to the MKCG Medical College Hospital, where his condition was stated to be serious.

The situation is tense but under control, SP(Ganjam) Nitinjit Singh said.
