Former comptroller and auditor general VK Shunglu today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to finalise requirements for the probe by a committee headed by him into the alleged financial irregularities in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.
This is the first meeting of Shunglu with Singh after the prime minister constituted the high-level committee on October 15 to go into the allegations of corruption related to the mega sporting event held here between October 3-14.
The committee will submit its report to the prime minister in three months.
Besides Shunglu, principal secretary to the prime minister TKA Nair and cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar were also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, the nitty-gritty of the terms of reference for the Shunglu committee and his possible members of his team was also finalised.
Earlier in the day, Shunglu, who arrived here yesterday, met Nair and discussed with him the modalities for the probe. The terms and references are likely to be announced by early next week.
Shunglu had yesterday said the probe is aimed at arriving "right conclusions".
"This is not about the authorities. This is about reaching to the right conclusion," Shunglu said while commenting on the multiplicity of the probe ordered by different independent agencies like CVC, CBI, ED and the income-tax department.
"It is for the government to define the inquiry and for me to conduct it...It is very difficult to say anything at this stage," he had said.
In reply to an RTI application filed by PTI, the CVC had given details of 22 projects worth several crores executed by different government agencies where discrepancies have been detected, excluding the previous 16 which had come under the scanner earlier for alleged financial and administrative discrepancies.
Out of the total of 22 projects being probed by CVC, six were carried out by the sports ministry, four by Delhi Development Authority, three by Games organising committee and two each by Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Central public works Department.
