The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today said it favoured creation of new states on the basis of administrative feasibility and not on linguistic criterion.

The size of the state, big or small, was immaterial, and administrative feasibility should be the criterion for carving out of new states, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told a rally here.

On the Copenhagen summit, he said the danger to the eco- system would not have arisen if the world had followed the ancient Indian view that man should live close to nature and protect it.

Bhagwat said it was strange that developed nations responsible for 60% of carbon dioxide emissions were asking countries like India, which accounts for just over 1%, to reduce them by half.

Turning to Hindutava, he said it was India’s identity and the binding force as it transcends boundaries of caste, community and language.

Advocating smaller states, senior RSS ideologue MG Vaidya, said Congress and main opposition BJP should consider setting up new SRC. "BJP has approved new Telangana state. The saffron party could possibly agree on smaller states," he said.

According to Vaidya, smaller states should not have less than 50 lakh population and not more than three crores. By this logic, Uttar Pradesh will have six states, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh three new states each, he added.

Vaidya felt that the one language, one state formula was not feasible anymore. Since the language of Vidarbha and rest of Maharashtra is one, therefore it should remain one state is nothing but extremism of insistence. Other wise one Hindi state would have been much bigger and beyond our imagination, he said.

Some people are under the impression that smaller states will pose problem for Federal State which is not true.

Vaidya, a former RSS spokesman said, RSS has set been up on provincial basis like, Meeraj, Awadh, Kashi, Konkan and Mahakaushal.

The world is progressive and therefore it would not be improper if new states are created. Indeed after every 30 years after the census, the SRC should take up the issue of smaller states, he added.

The RSS ideologue said dispute over cities like Belgaum and Chandigarh should be solved through a referendum.
