Foreign tourist assaulted in Puri

A foreign tourist was assaulted by unidentified miscreants at Puri, the famous seaside pilgrim town today, police said.

Omaro Daniel, 25, of Kazakhstan along with his wife, parents and other family members was taking a stroll in Sri Vihar area, close to Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University on the outskirts of the town when when he was attacked by three miscreants, an officer, at the sea beach police station AK Dhar said.

When Daniel tried to protest, they attacked him with shrap-edged weapons causing injury on his hand.

He was discharged after being treated at the district headquarters hospital in Puri.

Daniel was staying in a hotel since January 11 along with his family members.

There had been instances of misbehaviour with several foreign and domestic tourists in the town in recent times, local tourism industry sources said.
