Five of a family run over by train at Faridabad

The incident took place when the six-year-old girl child jumped onto the track while playing at the platform.

Five members of a family met a tragic end today when they were run over by the Rajdhani Express while trying to save a  child who had jumped on the tracks at Faridabad New Town Railway Station.

The incident took place when the six-year-old girl child jumped onto the track while playing at the platform. Four members of her family immediately jumped on the tracks to save her without realising the Thiruvananthapuram-bound train approaching, a Northern Railway spokesperson said.

The other members of the family who died were the girl's father Kripa Shankar, mother Indu, sister Pooja and grandmother.

They were waiting at the station to board a train to Hardiwar to take part in the Mahakumbh Mela.
