Five labourers from Bihar killed in a blast in paper mill in Chandigarh

A police official in Malerkotla said the labourers were working close to the heavy machinery which malfunctioned leading to the explosion.

Five migrant labourers from Bihar were killed and one was injured in a blast in the dryer of a paper mill near Malerkotla early today.
 
The deceased were identified as Jeevan Kumar, Dev Kumar, Guddu Tiwari, Guddu Singh and Mukesh Kumar.
 
The injured was identified as Deep Chand who is undegoing treatment in Malerkotla civil hospital, police said.
 
They said that a used paper dryer was purchased a few days ago by the mill owners. The pressure gauge of the dryer was reported to be out of order.
 
The increase of pressure in dryer was said to be the cause of mishap, they said.
 
The police have booked the mill owners for causing death due to negligence under relevant sections of the IPC.
