A minor fire broke out in a Udhampur-bound train minutes after it left Old Delhi railway station here tonight, but there was no report of any injury.

Passengers of Delhi-Udhampur Jammu Mail reported smoke emanating between S-2 and S-3 coaches and raised an alarm.

The train had barely picked up speed after leaving at 8.30 pm when the driver stopped it about 100 metres from the station, near Chandni Chowk. The coaches were separated from the train as it pulled back into the station.

Three fire tenders arrived at the spot and doused the flames immediately, said a passenger travelling in the train.

According to a Northern railway spokesperson, the smoke was reported in the vestibule connecting S-2 and S-3 coaches.

All passengers were immediately evacuated and the train was examined at the station.

"As part of our standard drill we separated the affected coach and conducted a thorough examination before attaching it with the train to resume its onward journey."
