Fire breaks out in Raj Bhavan's guest house in Gandhinagar

Governor Dr Kamalaji was not present at the Raj Bhavan when the incident happened. The fire was immediately doused.

A minor fire broke out at the governor's House-Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar at 3 pm on Monday, but there was no human casualty. Governor Dr Kamalaji was not present at the Raj Bhavan when the incident happened. The fire was immediately doused.

Mahesh Mod, fire officer of Gandhinagar district who rushed to the spot with his staff, told DNA: "We got a call from the governor's house about the fire, at 3.03 pm. A sweeper saw smoke coming out of the room and he informed the officials. We immediately rushed to the spot.

"The fire broke out at the VIP guest house room No.6, which is behind the governor's residence. The room was full of smoke and so we broke the glasses of the windows and controlled the fire in around ten minutes. A spilt air-conditioner, sofa, carpet, window panel and curtains were completely burned. The room was unoccupied so there was no casualty.''

Mod further said: "The smoke had spread to the hall and other rooms too, so we have to break the window glass to release the smoke."

Sources who were present at the governor's residence when the incident happened said: "The revenue and road & building department minister Anandiben Patel, under whom the maintenance of the Raj Bhavan and ministerial residential complex falls, also rushed to the spot with revenue department principal secretary P.Paneervel and R&B secretary SS Rathore, chief engineer of the department and other officials as did K. Kailashnathan, principal secretary to the chief minister and GC Murmu, additional principal secretary to CM, district collector Sanjeev Kumar, DSP Piyush Patel and FSL officials.

According to the FSL's primary investigation, the cause of fire was short circuit in the ac.
