Fire at receiving station in Kashmir plunges many areas in darkness

Fire broke out in the station at Bemina in Central Srinagar around 3.30 am, as a result of which the power supply to many areas of the city was snapped.

Many parts of the city were plunged into darkness in the wee hours today after a fire broke out in an electricity receiving station here, officials said.
     
Fire broke out in the station at Bemina in Central Srinagar around 3.30 am, as a result of which the power supply to many areas of the city was snapped.
     
They said the fire and emergency services immediately pressed their men and machines and took nearly two hours to control the fire.
     
The receiving station was partially damaged in the fire, which was caused by electric short circuit, the sources said adding the fire services put the loss at about Rs4 lakhs.
     
The sources said senior officers of Power Development department (PDD) visited the receiving station and efforts are on to restore the power supply.
