Fire at railway station in Uttar Pradesh disrupts train movement

A railway station in Gorakhpur-Narkatiyaganj section was today engulfed in flames when diesel stored in seven drums in the generator room caught fire, disrupting rail traffic for a few hours.
    
However, there was no casualty, a senior official said.
    
Paniyahwa station on Gorakhpur-Narkatiyaganj section of the North Eastern Railway was badly damaged when the diesel caught fire, chief public relation officer NER Amit Singh said.
    
The building and signal panel in the station master's room were damaged affecting traffic on the section from 8am to 12 noon, he said.
    
Fire tenders from Kushinagar, Mahrajganj and Gorakhpur districts took three hours to douse the flames after which normal traffic and signalling system were restored.
    
Gorakhpur-Howrah Express was stranded at Valmikinagar station and Gorakhpur-Narkatiyaganj passenger train at Khadda station for a couple of hours due to the fire.
    
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, Singh said, adding an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
